How I founded an event management startup from scratch, built a team of 10+, and executed a high-energy Joker-themed DJ pub party โ delivering an unforgettable experience for 200+ guests while cutting operational costs by 20%.
I had been nurturing the idea of organizing an event for a long time. I wanted to prove to myself that I could take something from pure concept to a real, full-scale event โ without any prior experience in event management, without an existing team, and starting from absolute zero.
One day I stopped thinking about it and just decided: this is happening. That's when I founded Suspicious Troop โ an innovative event management project where creativity, precision, and fun come together to make every moment unforgettable.
"Starting completely from scratch, I planned and executed a high-energy DJ pub event. Every detail โ from concept to final execution โ was carefully designed."
โ Karthik M, FounderThe theme was chosen deliberately: the Joker. Visually bold, instantly recognizable, and perfect for a night that's supposed to be dramatic and memorable. Every element of the event was designed around this identity โ from the decor and lighting to the energy of the space.
Full Joker aesthetic across decor, posters, passes, and stage design. The visual identity was designed in-house โ everything from the colour palette to the typography.
Arranged and coordinated a DJ performance โ handled artist outreach, coordination, technical rider requirements, and stage setup to ensure a seamless live set.
A separate, purpose-designed dance floor was prepared โ laid out, lit, and managed independently to give guests a dedicated space to let loose.
An interactive face painting station added a playful, theatrical element that complemented the Joker theme and gave guests a hands-on experience beyond just attending.
With no prior event management experience and a team that had never worked together, I took ownership of every function โ from the high-level concept down to on-the-ground execution on the day.
Originated the event idea, defined the Joker theme, and set the overall vision for what the night should feel like for every attendee.
Managed vendors, venue coordination, logistics, timeline, and all on-ground execution โ keeping everything running during the live event.
Planned and tracked the full event budget โ negotiating with vendors and cutting operational costs by approximately 20% without compromising quality.
Built and managed a team of 10+ collaborators โ assigning responsibilities, coordinating efforts, and keeping morale high through the build-up and the event itself.
Designed all event collateral in-house โ posters, entry passes, social media graphics โ maintaining a consistent Joker visual identity throughout.
Planned and executed the entire marketing push โ outreach to fill 200+ seats through a mix of social media, word of mouth, and direct promotion.
Founded Suspicious Troop. Chose the Joker theme, defined the event format, and locked the venue. Set the budget framework and started building the core team.
Created all visual assets โ event posters, entry passes, social content โ using Canva. Coordinated with vendors for DJ setup, dance floor, face painting station, and lighting.
Launched the marketing campaign across social channels and direct outreach. Managed ticket sales and coordinated RSVPs, targeting a packed house of 200+ guests.
Managed every detail on the night โ DJ coordination, team briefings, guest entry, dance floor management, face painting station, and vendor logistics. 200+ guests attended a smooth, high-energy event.
The event received overwhelming positive response from guests, friends, and family. Operational costs were cut by 20%. The experience built a network of contacts across vendors, artists, and collaborators that continues to grow.
I didn't make profit. But I came out with something more valuable: real experience, hard-earned skills, and a network I could never have built any other way.
I had been "planning" this event in my head for a long time. The moment I committed and started doing, everything moved fast. Starting is the hardest step โ everything else is problem-solving.
Without deep pockets, every rupee had to work harder. I learned to negotiate, find alternatives, and make smart trade-offs โ cutting costs by 20% without guests ever noticing.
Coordinating 10+ collaborators with different skills and motivations โ keeping them aligned, motivated, and clear on their responsibilities โ was one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of the project.
Working with vendors, DJs, venue managers, and collaborators gave me a network of professional contacts that no classroom or online course could have built. These relationships are ongoing.
No profit on the night โ but gained leadership experience, operational skills, vendor relationships, and the confidence that I can take something from zero to a live event for hundreds of people.
